Rescue Horse of the MonthEach month Restorative Reins highlights a rescue horse from one of our trusted rescue centers. The horse may have a great rags-to-riches story, be a rehab pro, or they may be looking for a home. Keep an eye out to meet our horsey pals through our monthly Horsey Highlights posts. Name: Cody Gender: Gelding Age: 5 years old Height: 13.2hh (approx.) Breed: Unknown (Pony Type) Available at: What Do You Know Adoption Fee: Free for the month of April Cody's StoryCody's story began when What Do You Know saw a kijiji ad of him and his 5 "siblings" needing a safe place to land until his forever home came along. All 6 boys were colts and we can only assume they are related. Cody was saved January 2nd, 2018 and traveled from Ottawa to What Do You Know in Innisfil. Cody's siblings were fairly skinny, but he had the best weight. Though he had the best weight he had a very dangerous medical issue. He had a very large umbilical hernia that should have been surgically repaired when he was younger. It could have strangled his intestines and he would have died. Thankfully they were able to get it repaired when they gelded him January 23rd, 2018. Cody was perfect for his stall rest for 4 weeks. The day Cody arrived to the rescue he was perfect to catch and loved to be snuggled and scratched. Once caught when trying to be led to a stall for the night it was very obvious that he wasn't halter broke. He would refuse to walk, try running an opposite direction or throwing himself over backwards. Like any unhandled horse Cody has his good and bad days. Good days he walks like a school horse not too far in front of you or behind you. On his bad days he wants to refuse going in/out of the barn. Cody needs an experienced home that can spend at least a few days a week working with him and showing him how to be a good equine partner. Cody has been with his 5 siblings since he arrived at What Do You Know. He is good in a stall and respects fencing. Currently living outside 24/7. Doesn't require grain. In January Cody also got his teeth floated, de-wormed and his shots. Adoption fee has been reduced to FREE for the month of April, in hopes that he can find his special family that is willing to work with him and give him the time and training that he needs.
